What is Depression?

Depression is a mood disorder that involves a continuous feeling of loss interest, anger and sadness. Depression is experienced in so many ways. In most cases it may interfere with your daily activities and routine, love life and your general relationship with the people round you. In other cases it may also lead to constant feelings of worthlessness which sometimes leads to suicidal thoughts.

Signs and Symptoms of Depression

Major depression can cause a variety of symptoms. Some affect your mood, and others affect your body. Symptoms may also be ongoing, or come and go.

The symptoms of depression can be experienced differently among men, women, and children differently.

  • Sad mood
  • Lack of interest in activities once enjoyed
  • Unintentional weight loss or gain
  • Sporadic spazzing out
  • Agitation, restlessness, and pacing up and down
  • Slowed movement and speech
  • Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide, or an attempt at suicide
  • Fatigue 
  • Feelings of worthlessness or guilt

Every now and then try to re-evaluate yourself by asking yourself these questions

Do you persistently feel unhappy? 

Have you lost interest in activities that used to be fun?

Do you sleep well all through the night? 

Do you feel refreshed on awakening?

Do you know that presence of these symptoms may indicate DEPRESSION?
